If you've never read the Iliad, it truly is one of the greatest works of literature. I have the Penguin Deluxe C.Eds. They form I recently came across the Robert Fagles translation and it strikes a good balance between the original poetic form and being understandable. Ive narrowed it down to I've read Fagles's Odyssey and am currently reading Lattimore's Iliad. Fagles translation, whenever I can find it. I absolutely always go for an R. The poem is likely to have had an oral origin. Of both The Illiad & The Odyssey, and they outshine (in readability and interest) any other edition I've seen. I know that this topic has been brought up before, but i am still non the wiser on which translation of the odyssey i should go for. The Iliad (or Song of Troy) is an epic poem set during the Trojan War. If you don't know, Homer's The Odyssey is a direct sequel and Virgil's Aenied tells another part of the story after The Iliad ends.
